sarah & patrick - 2.3.2012

Sarah and Patrick were married at Risen Son Baptist Church and celebrated their game-themed reception at St Leo's Catholic church both in Omaha.  Their wedding was attended by a close group of family and friends.  Sarah and Patrick have a wonderfully elegant style with a quirky spin!  The bride wore a rose patterned satin gown complete with birdcage veil and gorgeous earrings from etsy.com.   The groom bucked the traditional black tux and opted for a funky green suit complete with mossy green saddle shoes PLUS he had a different jacket and tie for the reception.  From the flowergirls "petals" (heart-shaped cutouts from a book) to the unique manner in which their wedding rings were carried by the ring bearer (the rings were placed in cutouts inside a book of poetry), the bridal rings themselves (from etsy.com as well!) and the handmade magnet favors at the reception, this wedding definitely was a reflection of this lovely couple!     Please enjoy a few wedding teasers from Sarah and Patrick's wedding.  Please come back in about 2 weeks to view ALL their images.

My California Adventure 1.2012

I have take a bit of time off from photography to enjoy the holidays and to recharge.  This past week, I attended a software conference in Anaheim - not far from Disneyland.   I had quite an adventure this week complete with plane rides, tours of the nation's finest airports, a trip to Disneyland (well, almost), an encounter with the ocean - my own California Adventure!   Please enjoy a recap of my week compliments of my iphone and an app call Be Funky -

First a plane ride!

My home for the week - the Anaheim Marriott complete with Palm trees!!!!!  I love palm trees.

There is nothing like this in Nebraska.

Or this - not sure the name of the tree, but am fascinated with the Birds of Paradise that are everywhere!  They look prehistoric - I can safely say none flew up my nose!

My room and its view to the east - I had two beds!   I didn't know which one to sleep in - I entertained the idea of switching beds each night, but didn't.  Guess I'm not as adventurous as I thought, but adventure will come shortly!

I was greeted by two young ladies of Califiornia who became my tour guides - Natasha and Ardena.

I must admit, I was a bit worried that my tour guides would lead me astray, but soon put my nerves to rest, they were nice girls, really.

See!?    Okay, they graciously brought me to Newport Beach to get my feet (and jeans) wet and watch the sunset.

So I obliged Natasha with a hug (actually, Natasha is one of my oldest and dearest friends who has lived in California for a LONG time and her friend Ardena - my friend too - came to treat me to an evening away from the hotel.).  I RARELY post photos of me as I am the one photographing and what photographer likes having their photo taken?

Me and my dear sweet friend, Kissy Jean!

The reward for a walk in the ocean - please don't mind the glaringly white legs & feet - I'm from Nebraska.

And the sunset that we waited for.

I can hear the waves crashing and the smell of fish.  Can you make out the "sea chicken" on the beach?

A trio of Jesus Freaks - Ardena, me, and Natasha - yes we are great BIG lovers of the Lord.   They are my sisters!

So we left the beach and ate supper at Mimi's Cafe in Newport Beach. Then took a leisurely ride on the 55, the 5, the freeways of California are delightful.

Our next stop is - Disneyland!!!

Natasha is a little excited.

Funny thing, Disneyland was closed for a private party, so we never got in except inside the turnstiles where a manager took pity on us upon hearing I had come from Nebraska and had never been to Disneyland and was leaving the next day, blah, blah.  The manager let us in for a few moments to take some snapshots.  He was kind enough to take our photo and then told us to leave.  When we asked if we could get a park stamp put on our hands, he grumbled, "DON'T PUSH IT!"  California folks are so nice.

So we decided to make our own Disney fun.  We walked the promenade of Downtown Disney, ate some beignets, bought some Disney goodies, and rode the rides.

The block long Disney store - complete with lines at the check out so we felt we were waiting for a ride!

The water rides were amazing - complete with soap AND paper towels AND psychodelic tiles.  Cool, dude.

The Pirates of the Carribean Escalator ride was swell - aaarrggghhh!!!

Witness Natasha's joy after exiting Daisy Duck's Parking Level 2 Big Thunder Mountain ride.

We rode the Tram of Terror (the Tower of Terror's sister ride) TWICE!!!!  I was so glad none of us got sick.

I knew it all had to end so the ladies brought me back to my hotel and I waved them goodbye as they rode off onto the 55 south.

The next day, I was magically transported from hotel to airport by Yellow Taxi.   From the John Wayne airport, I was whisked away by 737 to the eastern city of Denver where I enjoyed an extended layover.

Once our flight crew arrived, we were taken home to Omaha where I claimed my baggage and walked in the blustery 30-40 mph breeze where on the top level of the parking garage was my orange Saturen VUE who had been patiently waiting for me all week!

After driving the 45 minutes home - stopping twice for gas and food - I was greeted by my family!  My daughter had a friend spend the night and treated me to a viewing of Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest and an early wake-up call!

Thank you for reading and viewing my blog posting of my California adventure!

the engagement of elissa & alan - 12.10.2011

Elissa and Alan met me in downtown Omaha in the Old Market area to photograph their winter engagement session!  I love couples who brave the weather - cold, snow, thunderstorms (I've done them all!!) - to create unique engagement images.  We started the session at The Hot Shops - a funky artists' coop in the now-popular area of the new home of the College World Series.  Then we traveled to Gene Leahy Mall then to the bustling streets of the Old Market during a Charles Dickens Christmas celebration!  Elissa and Alan are a lovely and adventuresome couple!  With Elissa's infectious smile and Alan's Carhart hat, I couldn't help but capture everything they did!!  We used the snow and the crisp blue sky to create images that can only happen in winter!  These will be a lovely contrast to their June 2012 wedding!!  Please enjoy!

the wedding of randy & gail - 12.3.2011

Randy & Gail were married in Nebraska City at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  The day was rainy but the mood was bright inside one of my very favorite churches at Christmastime.  The church is simply decorated in fir trees with white lights and poinsettas - stunning.   The couple were married at noon on Saturday and then moved their celebration to the fellowship hall in the church.  They were surrounded by many loving family and friends as they spent their first day as man and wife.  Please enjoy some images from their wedding and if you would like to view all the images, please click on the link below -

Breelyn at 3 Months - 12.14.2011

Breelyn is the daughter of a couple I photographed their wedding a little over a year ago.  Jason & Cristi brought their gorgeous little bundle to my studio this past week to photograph their daughter at 3 months.  Breelyn is a bright-eyed and happy little baby - very expressive!   Please enjoy some images from her session as well as a couple of Breelyn's parent's wedding and maternity images !

jane & paul - 11.26.2011

Jane and Paul were married in South Omaha at Grace United Methodist Church and celebrated their reception in Council Bluffs.  This wedding was special to me as the groom is the son of a good friend that I photograph weddings with!   The bride was dressed in a gown specially made for her as the groom's tux harkened back to the days of the Rat Pack.   After the evening ceremony where the bride tossed her bouguet to the guests from the church's steps, the guests drove across the Missouri River to the funky hip restaurant / art gallery - Dixie Quicks / RNG Gallery.  Before arriving, the bride and groom stopped for a few quick photos at Bayliss Park where they ran through the trees decked in Christmas lights to dance under the gorgeously lit dome in the park.  What troopers they were as it was (very) cold!  Once arriving at the reception, guests were asked to leave their thumbprint on a unique guest book fashioned after a tree.  The cake was made by the bride herself earlier in the day!  The atmosphere was relaxed and elegant as guests moved from restaurant to art gallery to witness the couple's first dance.  What a wonderful privilege it was to photograph this wedding!!!   Please enjoy some images from Jane and Paul's first day of marriage.  If you'd like to view all the images, please click on the link below -
